Maya was busy preparing the remaining dishes that she and Emman cooked for lunch. She quickly put everything inside her stocked Tupper wares and placed it inside a paper bag. She went inside her room to change her clothes for in a record breaking time and preceded to the kitchen to get the paper bag. She was so worried when Richard told her that he hasn’t eaten anything yet. Him working was already worrying and him not eating on time was enough for her to panic like this.
She spotted Emman inside the kitchen eyeing the paper bag near the sink. “Roomie, para kanino ‘to? Saka sa’n ka pupunta?” He asked when he spotted Maya. “Aalis muna ako Emman. Dadalhin ko lang ‘yan kay Richard. Hindi pa raw nakain eh.” Maya answered as she reached for the paper bag.
“Wow naman. Iba na talaga kapag may boyfriend ka Roomie!” Emman teased. “Eh Emman, hindi kasi maganda sa kanya ‘tong ginagawa niya. Sige na, uuna na ko.” She said. “Sige na girl. Pero alam mo, kung yung boyfriend ko ba eh ganyan din ka-sweet na pati pamilya ko handa niyang ayusin para lang sa’kin, eh gagawin ko rin yang ginagawa mo. Baka nga maghanda pa ko ng bonggang-bongga eh!” Emman said and Maya just answered with a smile. “Girl, wag kang bibitiw agad dyan kay Richard ha? Feeling ko swerte siya sa’yo eh.”
Maya nodded. “O sige na Emman. Aalis na ko. Gutom na yun.” She said and left.
Richard’s vision was getting blurry. His hunger was slowly eating him. He could’ve asked Liza to buy food for him if it wasn’t for Maya. Thirty minutes had passed since she called and she still hasn’t arrived. He shook his head and finally gave up on fixing the plane. He carefully stood up and leaned on the plane when he felt dizzy again.
“Sir, ayos lang po ba kayo?” Lino rushed to his side when he saw Richard almost losing his balance.
“I’m okay Lino. Makikitawag naman si Engr. Yamaguchi. I want his team to work on the remaining problems of this plane.” He instructed.
“Masama po ba pakiramdam niyo Sir? Kasi dati naman ho naaayos niyo yang ganyang maliliit na eroplano natin eh.” Lino continued.
“I’m in no good shape today.” Richard replied shortly. “Go on, tawagin mo na si Engr. Yamaguchi.” He said and Lino left after nodding. Richard started walking again with his hand on the body of the plane for support. He spotted Liza talking to a woman whose back was to him.
“Ah, Sir, may naghahanap po sa inyo.” Liza said and the woman in front of her turned around and rushed to his side. She looped her arm around his and assisted him in walking. “Hindi ka pa rin kumakain?” She asked and Richard shook his head. “I waited for you. Sabi mo dadating ka eh.”
“Sir? Is everything okay po?” Liza asked when she reached them. Richard nodded at her. “I’m sorry I forgot to inform you that she’s coming. Maya, she’s Liza, my secretary.” When Richard mentioned the woman’s name, Liza’s brows furrowed as she tried to remember where and when she heard that name before. “And Liza, she’s Maya, my –“
“O my God, Sir! Siya yung pinapadalhan niyo ng flowers!” Liza blurted out but immediately covered her mouth with her hands. Richard just chuckled while Maya bit her lower lip to prevent herself from smiling. “Buking ka na, Richard!” Maya teased.
“Hey, I sent those flowers.” Richard defended making Maya laugh. “Hi Liza! Hihiramin ko muna ‘tong boss niyo. Kayo na muna yung bahala dun sa ginagawa nito, mukhang ayos na naman eh. Bawal pa kasi siya ng mga ganyang trabaho.” Maya explained to the woman in front of her.
“May nangyari ba kay Sir nung nasa bakasyon?” Liza curiously asked.
Maya nodded. “Inatake nanaman ‘to.” She said as she lightly tapped Richard’s arm and Liza gasped when she heard her.
“May maganda namang kinalabasan ah?” Richard asked. “Maganda nga ang kinalabasan, mamamatay ka naman.” Maya replied and then she pouted. Richard just chuckled to avoid looking at her lips. If Liza was not in front of them, he would’ve kissed her already. “Ayaw mo lang akong mawala eh.” Richard teased. Maya pinched him on his side that made him laugh even more. He looked back at Liza. “Liza, pagpasensyahan mo na ‘tong girlfriend ko. Under talaga ako eh.” He said.
Liza’s eyes got wider. “Girlfriend niyo na siya Sir?” She asked and when Richard nodded, she squealed. “Grabe Sir ha! Hindi niyo talaga pinakawalan.” She continued. “Eh Ms. Maya, kayo po ba yung kasayaw ni Sir Richard dun sa Summit?” Maya shyly nodded and Liza squealed even more.
“Sige na Liza, hindi pa nakain ‘tong boyfriend ko.” Maya said with a smile on her face. Liza nodded with a smile and Maya assisted Richard to walk in a corner where some chairs were placed. “Maya, there’s a room upstairs, my office. Dun na tayo kumain.” He said. Maya nodded and walked where Richard told her to. This time, Richard’s arm was on her shoulders, and Maya’s hand was on top of his hand on her shoulder. They were both aware that the employees were looking at them with smiles on their faces. There were smiling not just because they were sweet and all but they were simply glad that their boss found his true happiness again.
Richard slumped on his chair the moment Maya assisted him to sit down. The smell of food made his stomach grumble and he just couldn’t take his eyes off of the food. He started to eat immediately when Maya put the Tupper ware down in front of him. Maya just sat in front of his table and watched him eat. Richard was holding the container under his chin and he’s shoving food on his mouth even though it was still full.
“What?” Richard said but it sounded more of grumble because his mouth was still full. Maya just chuckled at him and got the thermos inside the paper bag and poured coffee on its cup. She watched in amusement as Richard quickly put his food down to reach for the cup of coffee. He lifted it up to drink it but he jolted right away when the heat of the liquid reached his tongue, making Maya to laugh hard.
“Dahan-dahan lang kasi!” Maya exclaimed as Richard blew the cup of coffee to cool it. “Para namang mauubusan ka ng pagkain saka ng kape.”
“It’s your fault you know.” He said and took a sip of his coffee. “I was so hungry tapos ang tagal mo pang dumating. Magkakaron ako ng ulcer ng wala sa oras nito eh.” He said as he put his coffee down and started eating again.
“Mas kasalanan mo kaya. Ikaw kaya ‘tong hindi kumain ng lunch.” Maya reasoned out but Richard didn’t reply. He was so busy eating. Maya just watched him eat like a kid. Rice grains were seen on the side of his mouth waiting to be removed. “Richard, masarap ba luto ko?” She asked.
Richard stopped shoving food in his mouth and swallowed the remaining food to clear his mouth. “I don’t know. I’m just so hungry that’s why I’m eating like this.” He teased. “Oy, ang sama ha.” Maya reacted.
“I’m kidding! Mamaya bawiin mo pa ‘tong pagkain ko. Masarap ‘yung adobo mo.” He said and then returned eating. When he was nearly done, he choked and coughed really hard. Maya rushed to him and grabbed the container he’s holding to put it on the table. She quickly reached for the cup of coffee and gave it to him while she rubbed his back. Richard immediately stopped coughing and looked at Maya. “Joke lang.” He said with a smile on his face.
Maya’s mouth gaped and hit Richard on his head. She returned to her seat while Richard laughed so hard. “Nakakainis ‘to. Nag-aalala na nga yung tao eh.” Maya said with her arms crossed. “I’m sorry! Masyado ka kasing seryoso sa panonood ng boyfriend mong kumain eh.” He said as he stood in his seat and sat on the chair in front of Maya’s. He was trying to look straight into her eyes but Maya would always look away.
“I’m sorry, Maya.” He said for the last time. Maya let out a deep sigh and put both of her hands on Richard’s cheeks to remove the grains of rice that were still there. “Ang amos mong kumain.” She said. Richard smirked and grabbed her hand that was lying on his cheek and kissed it. “I’m really happy that you’re mine.”
Maya just smiled at him and reached for the tupper ware. She saw that it still has food left and scooped it up with the spoon. She lifted it and brought it to Richard’s mouth. With a smile on his face, Richard opened his mouth to eat the food. He doesn’t care if he looks like a child at that state. His girlfriend was the one to blame for bringing that joy outside of him.
The two were disrupted by a knock on the door. Ryan entered when it opened. “Aba, tama nga ang sabi nung mga nasa baba. Mukhang ang ganda ng ngiti natin ngayon, Richard.” He said.
Richard just shook his head. “Siyempre, brod.” He said and reached for Maya’s hand. “My girlfriend is here.” He continued.
Ryan’s face lit up. “Ha! Finally! Basta brod, ninong ako sa kasal ha. Kahit abay pwede na.” He continued.
“Stop teasing Ryan.” Richard said and stood up to let him sit down. “What brings you here?” He asked.
Ryan sat down on the chair opposite of Maya. “Hi Maya. I’m here to inform you na makikiuwi na si Richard sa kanila.” He said.
“Huhulaan ko Ryan. Nakakasama sa kanya ‘tong ginagawa niya no?” Maya asked.
“Buti pa ‘tong girlfriend mo, brod, nakakaintindi ng bawal!” Ryan exclaimed. “I thought you already know the drill? No heavy works muna ‘di ba? At hindi lang ‘yon. Hindi ka na naman daw nagpapatulong dun sa inaayos mong aircraft. Kaya ka ganyan eh.” He continued.
“I’m fine Ryan. Nahilo lang ako kasi ngayon lang ako nakakain.” Richard explained. “Pero ayos lang talaga ako. I didn’t experience chest pains while I was working earlier.” He said. He even felt like his heart is giving him extra strength to do his work.
“Ah, I insist that you should stay home, Richard.” Ryan said. “Take Maya with you para may nurse ka.”
“I can’t. May flight siya bukas.”
“Ah, cancelled yung flight ko bukas. Masama kasi yung panahon sa Davao.” Maya said.
“Oh, ayun naman pala eh!” Ryan exclaimed. “Basta Maya, let him eat on time, don’t let him work kasi stress lang lalo ‘yun and –“
“Ryan, I’m fine.” Richard said. “And Maya, don’t listen to him –“
“Kailangan kong makinig Richard. Doktor kaya ‘to. Mas makabubuti sa’yo yung mga sasabihin ni Ryan.” She said and continued listening to what Ryan says. When they were done, Maya excused herself and went to the bathroom.
“Alam na ba nina Tita Esmeralda yung nangyari sa’yo?” Ryan asked him. Richard shook his head. “Hindi pa eh. Don’t tell them, ako na.” He said. “And do I really need to go home and rest?”
Ryan nodded. “Alam mo Richard, ang weird talaga ng donor ng puso mo. Kasi parang mas pinapabilis pa niya yung paggaling mo bukod sa paggawa niya ng trabaho niya.”
Richard shrugged. “I also don’t know why it’s like that. Siguro, bonus miracle yun na binigay ni God sa’kin.”
“Maybe.” Ryan said. “Oh, before I forgot, I’ve got news about your heart donor.” Ryan said, catching Richard’s attention. “I think you already know him.”
