Seize the Day 4

“WHAT?!” sigaw ko. No! It can’t be! Wag si Maya. “Panong bumagsak?!” NO! This can’t be happening!

“Balita sa . . sa TV. Yung kalilipad na eroplano papuntang Indonesia nagcrash land daw tapos – “ hindi ko na tinapos pakinggan yung sinasabi ni Manang Fe. I ran upstairs to watch the news.

“ – isang flight mula sa Time Airways ang nag-crash kanina lamang. Ang flight na nasabi ay mula Manila patungong Indonesia. Wala pang balita ukol sa mga pasahero at mga trabahador nito.” Balita ng reporter sa TV. While she’s talking, an image showed up with the list of the names of the crew who’s on board with that plane. I scanned it, hoping not to see her name.

“Dela Rosa, Maya”

It’s her name. No! This can’t be! I gripped my hair with both of my hands. Sari-saring emosyon bigla ang naramdaman ko. Why? Bakit kailangang madamay si Maya?! I’m so angry with myself.

“Ricardo . . “ It’s Manang Fe. She sat beside me, patting my back because I am crying.  “Wag kang mawalan ng pag-asa. Wala pa silang tiyak na balita. Nararamdaman kong buhay si Maya.”

I don’t know what to say to her. I just stayed in my position.

“Dad. .” si Luke. I can feel that all of my kids are here now. They can’t see me like this. I wiped my tears and I stand up. “Balitaan niyo na lang ako sa mga balita sa TV. I’ll be in my office.”

I went to my office, not to work but to know more about the plane where Maya is. I did everything. I even called Liza to update me. Cristina Rose called to tell me na nag-aalala na raw sina Nay Teresita. Sabi ko sa kanila, I’m doing my best to find out what happened.

“Daddy?” it’s Abbie. “Are you okay?”

I sighed. “Yes, baby.” No. I’m not okay. Abbie went inside my office and sat down on the chair in front of my table.

“You looked worried, Daddy. Do you want coffee?”

“It’s okay, baby. I don’t want coffee.” It will just remind me of her. “Do you have any news about your Ate Maya?”

“Wala po eh.” She looks sad all of the sudden. “I tried calling po her phone, but she’s not answering.”

I nodded. “Daddy, are you worried because of Ate Maya?”

“Oo, baby.”

“Don’t be, Daddy. I’m sure Ate Maya is safe. That’s why I’m not crying.”

“Thanks, Abbie.” I can’t say anything further. I don’t know what to say.

“You like Ate Maya, don’t you Daddy?”

“Yes, baby. I like Ate Maya.”

“I mean, do you love her?”

I smiled. Should I? “. . Yes, baby. I’m in love with your Ate Maya.”

She also smiled. “Sabi na eh! Does she also love you?”

“Yes, baby. Ate Maya loves me back. But Abbie, just keep it as a secret muna.”

“Why Daddy?”

“I need to find Ate Maya first before I tell everyone.”

“Ok po Daddy. And you better find her fast.” Then she left. Yes, I need to find Maya or else I’m going to live forever with a part of me regretting what I should have done before.
