It’s been a year since Maya and I became official. Somehow, we worked it all out. Lagi ko siyang kinakaon at hinahatid. We even change our facebook statuses. I really want everybody to meet her. It’s just her schedule. Masyadong hectic. I can’t seem to find the right time.
“Chard, hindi ba parang oras na para malaman nung mga bata yung tungkol sa’tin?” sabi ni Maya sakin nung hinatid ko siya sa airport. It’s currently Sunday, and it’s 4am.
“Yan ba ang iniisip mo sa trabaho mo?”
“Nako, Maya. You’re at work, you shouldn’t think about stuffs like that.”
“Alam ko. Pero . . . masyado na kasing mahaba yung isang taon ng paglilihim natin eh.”
“I know. One day. Pag hindi ka sobrang busy. We’ll talk to them, ok?”
“Ok. Ah, wag mo na pala akong kaunin mamaya. May kasunod kasing flight yung pagdating namin ng 11AM dito.”
“Alright. San ang flight mo?”
“Manila to Indonesia, tapos pabalik.”
“Malungkot ka na naman oh.” Sabi ni Maya sa’kin. “Pagod ka na no? Sabi naman sa’yo eh, wag mo na ‘kong ihatid at sunduin.”
“Maya, I’ve told you so many times already, I want to do this. Saka baka may mangbastos sa’yo dito.”
“Richard, tingnan mo ko.” I looked straight to her eyes while she’s holding my face. “Sa’yo lang ako. Kaya wag kang masyadong mag-alala.”
I smiled. “Lumakad ka na, Maya. You’re going to be late.”
“Sige.” She hugged me. These things surprise me. Pag siya yung nagawa ng first move. “I love you.”
“I love you, too, Maya.” Then I kissed her. “Off you go.” She kissed me on my cheek then she finally left.
I went home and then I slept again. By 7AM, I woke up.
“Breakfast is ready, Dad!” sabi ni Luke nung bumaba ako. I sat down on the dining area. “Mukhang puyat ka nanaman, Dad. Napapadalas ata ang date mo.”
“. . Date?” sabi ko. How did he know? Do they know?
“Hay nako, si Dad, inosente raw kunwari. We all know that you’ve been dating! The question is, who is she?” sabi ni Nikki.
I just stared at them. They knew?
“Dali na Dad! Tell us na!”
“. . . You’ll meet her. Soon.”
“Daddy, are we going to have a new mommy na?” said Abbie.
“I don’t know, yet, baby.” I hope. I hope that she’ll say yes.
“Do you love her Dad?” tanong ni Luke.
“. . . Yes, I do love her.”
“OMG Dad! We must meet her!!”
I laughed. “Soon. She’s busy with her work.”
We spent the rest of the breakfast talking about the woman who I am dating. They have no idea that it is Maya. After the eating, I went to my office to work. I’ve been in and out the company because of Maya’s flights. I didn’t notice that it’s already 11AM. Maya should be on her next flight to Indonesia.
We’re having lunch now. While we are busy eating, the strangest thing happened – natabig ko yung baso ko causing it to fall and to break. Hindi ko alam kung bakit ko nadali. I’m already clearing it when I remembered a pamahiin.
Kapag may nahulog na baso habang kumakain, may nangyaring masama.
But it’s a superstitious belief. It can’t be true, right?
“Ricardo!” i heard Manang Fe’s voice “Ricardo!”
“Manang, andito ho kami ng mga bata. Ano hong nangyari?” Napuntahan na kami ni Manang Fe. She looks so worried at nagpapanic din siya.
“Si Maya, yung . . yung eroplano na sinasakyan ni Maya bumagsak!”
